I think that with all of the new channels coming out and the new networks like the Major League Baseball Channel, and Versus, that there will be either an elimination of commercial breaks or a huge reduction. The networks will realize that since their consumers have the technology to pause live TV during a commercial break and come back to the station and fast forward through them. They will then try to find out other ways to sell the consumers to the advertisers in order to get money. I think that they will then turn to product placement and endorsements in the sport's games or every day TV sitcoms. I think that even now these are the strongest methods and that they truly are effective, and if the commercials are continuously being skipped, then the networks and affiliates may have to resort to strictly using product placement.
Another change may be the fact that new episodes may not be regarded in the same manner as now. They will possibly just base their production on the fact that the majority of America will tape their show and watch it later, and they will not emphasize the new episode as much as they do today, which in turn will save them a lot of money.

I think the most memorable concept that we learned so far this semester is the target market and advertising methods. I cannot watch any ads on TV without thinking about what the target market is and what the seller is trying to convey. I am now a smarter consumer because I can tell when the companies are trying to sell to me and when I shouldnt be interested. I think that this semester has helped me be able to be a smart and well informed consumer, and it will help me be able to tell when the product is a true product and when it has too many misleading words and phrases to try to get me to buy it. I am a much more informed individual and I think I will be able to remain informed in regard to the advertising and such throughout my life.

I personally believe that product placement is the best way to advertise. They are used in subliminal ways and people are bombarded with the repetitive ads. They are noticed but in a subconscious way and they are extremely effective. The ads do not come out and say buy this product, but it gets their brand name out there and after multiple views of the product the consumer is more likely to want to go out and by the product. Another way that the product placement works is when a customer is in a retail store and they see that familiar label and the shelf, their brain recognizes it and the consumer is pushed towards buying the product because it has seen it before. Also, the testimonials by the famous stars in the shows makes the consumers want to emulate the stars, and use the same products that they use. There is a desire to be like celebrities for every person, and when there is a product that is used by that celebrity, consumers buy the product to be like the celebrity. The ads are very effective and are used at an incredible rate. You cant watch a show or movie without seeing product placement in it. There are so many different things that are shown in movies and shows that reach the consumer, and product placement is a super effective way to get one's products out into the market and sell to a vast number of consumers.

Blog #4 Option 1

Option 1:How do the media images & stereotpyes of men & women impact how we view each other professionally (at school, at work, in politics, etc.)?

The media images and stereotypes of men and women have a huge impact on how we view each other (at school, at work, in politics, etc.). I think that they make the distinction in between men and women even more obvious, and I think that they do effect a lot that goes on in our everyday lives.
The media images and stereotypes of men make the men feel as if they always have to be masculine and burly. They always are told that they have to be strong and tough and able to build a house with their bare hands, and to own humongous, gas guzzling, trucks that have way to many superfluous characteristics that you might use once every lifetime. The image of men being tough is in every man's mind every day of their lives, and they feel like that always have to either be huge and muscular, or the typical tough guy with no feelings or emotions. The stereotypes also make the men feel as if they are always the alpha dog in the workplace and school, which obviously is not a correct thing to believe. Men still typically have the positions of power in the workplace, but are not nearly as dominant as they usually have been.
The media images and stereotypes of women have ever greater ramifications, they make women feel as if they always have to be beautiful and skinny. The women then put on tons of makeup and try to maintain their weight, and are worried only about living up to the stereotypes. In school and the workplace, we only see this face and this body that media says the girls have to be, not how the girls themselves are. They are forced to not show their true self, and feel like they are not good enough just being themselves. We see the media, not the person. I think that women are most severely injured and hurt by the stereotypes that the media portrays.

I chose to use Sportscenter as my TV show, because I watch Sportscenter every day both during and after school, and I become very intelligent in regard to news in the sports world.
The first American Core Value that I noticed was Achievement and Success, I noticed that mostly all of the stories that were on the show were about the achievements of the players on the teams, and the teams themselves. Each story was about who did what in the game and how the team ended up doing, either ending with a win, or a loss.
The next core value that I saw was Material Comfort, a couple of the stories included some famous athletes in their personal lives, and many of the shots were of the athletes standing next to their brand new expensive cars, wearing overly expensive clothing, as well as wearing extensive jewelry.
Then I noticed another core value, Humanitarianism, the United Way is a NFL community help program that NFL players go and help unfortunate kids, and they showed all of the wonderful things that the players did for the children and how much they cared for the children.
Finally, the last core value that I noticed was Progress, the stories following some of the games they covered were about the players and how they could improve before the next game. They talked about how each of the main players struggled in the game and then how they believe the player should practice in order to make sure that they could perform at their optimal ability the next appearance.

I think that this all makes sense. I do believe that advertising has a significant impact on the actions, lifestyles, and beliefs of not only children but of people of all ages. I think that we are constantly bombarded with all of these advertisements and campaigns, and that all of them are indeed a big factor in everyone's lives. I think that the cases and examples they showed in this movie were the extreme cases, and that they used a biased point-of-view to exemplify their side of this issue. I think that the producers of this production had a clear idea and desires for the outcome and effects of their movie and they used information that was only pertinent to their cause. I do feel however that the media have huge impacts on the lives of people of all ages and that more recently, people of a younger age do in fact get targetted more often by the corporations.

Notecards Blog #1

Compare your Note Card Interview responses. Consider as well the ideas we've discussed in class.

After completing each of my interviews, I realized that each person that I interviewed had similar thoughts about what "media" truly is. The first person I interviewed, my mother, Teresa, said that to her, "media" means simply the news media, whether it be TV reporters or overall media. The next person I interviewed, Brandi, said that "media" means a way of communication to a large group of people. The third person I interviewed, my dad, John, said that "media was a method of showing information to vast groups of people. The last person I interviewed, Will, my brother, said that "media" means the news and the people that relay information to people through TV, newspapers, and magazines.
I then asked about how the media affect their lives and all of them said that the media influences them to pay attention to the news, and to change their styles and change their habits. Each gave a different method of the persuasion such as TV, cell phones, internet, newspapers.
Then I asked them how large of a role the media plays in their lives, each were very apparent to be in love with media, they all gave different methods that the media affects their lives, like the internet and the television, especially cell phones.
Finally, I asked if they had to choose one type of media to live without which it would be, and each answer varied. Teresa said the newspaper, because it is too brief in its reporting. Brandi said the TV, because there are many other methods to retrieve news that is on TV. John said cell phone, because he still is uncomfortable in using his and does not fully understand the functions. Finally, Will said magazines/newspapers because he does not like to read about news, he would much rather be told or shown
