Blog #3

I chose to use Sportscenter as my TV show, because I watch Sportscenter every day both during and after school, and I become very intelligent in regard to news in the sports world.
The first American Core Value that I noticed was Achievement and Success, I noticed that mostly all of the stories that were on the show were about the achievements of the players on the teams, and the teams themselves. Each story was about who did what in the game and how the team ended up doing, either ending with a win, or a loss.
The next core value that I saw was Material Comfort, a couple of the stories included some famous athletes in their personal lives, and many of the shots were of the athletes standing next to their brand new expensive cars, wearing overly expensive clothing, as well as wearing extensive jewelry.
Then I noticed another core value, Humanitarianism, the United Way is a NFL community help program that NFL players go and help unfortunate kids, and they showed all of the wonderful things that the players did for the children and how much they cared for the children.
Finally, the last core value that I noticed was Progress, the stories following some of the games they covered were about the players and how they could improve before the next game. They talked about how each of the main players struggled in the game and then how they believe the player should practice in order to make sure that they could perform at their optimal ability the next appearance.

I feel Sportscenter does a great job a great job showing our society the achievements and success of our professional athletes and also their material goods. Which you described in your blog.

  2. I watch Sportscenter all the time because it's all my brother ever watches. I never actually thought that Sportscenter had any American core values. I thought if anything Sportscenter would have one or two American core values. Sportscenter was a very interesting choice for this blog :D
